Cardiovascular computed tomography imaging for coronary artery disease risk: plaque, flow and fat

CCTA has emerged as the preferred non-invasive modality for the study of chest pain due to possible underlying CAD, and for the assessment of cardiovascular risk. Technical advances and realignment of patient pathways make CCTA a first-line investigation for assessment of CAD.Perivascular fat attenuation is a novel biomarker of coronary artery inflammation that can be evaluated from routine CCTA. It has the potential to predict coronary risk, above and beyond plaque features or stenosis, and is able to reclassify a substantial proportion of patients.
